MUMBAI – The India Meteorological Department has forecast extremely heavy rainfall over parts of central Maharashtra till Saturday, over parts of Madhya Pradesh on Friday and Saturday, and over parts of Gujarat on Saturday. Extremely heavy rainfall is also very likely over parts of coastal Karnataka today.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely in parts of Konkan, Goa, and central Maharashtra during the next five days. Similar weather conditions are also likely in parts of Madhya Pradesh till Sunday, in Vidarbha and Chhattisgarh till Saturday, and in Saurashtra and Kutch on Saturday, the weather agency said.
Parts of Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh, west Uttar Pradesh and west Rajasthan are likely to receive very heavy rainfall today, while parts of Uttarakhand are expected to see similar weather conditions till Saturday and east Rajasthan till Sunday, the weather bureau said.
In the southern peninsular, very heavy rainfall is likely over parts of south interior Karnataka till Friday, over Kerala today, and over coastal Karnataka on Friday, the India Meteorological Department said.
A cyclonic circulation is present over Gangetic West Bengal and the adjoining south Bangladesh in lower and middle tropospheric levels, and a trough runs from the cyclonic circulation to northeast Bihar in lower tropospheric levels. Under its influence, very heavy rainfall is likely in parts of Jharkhand, Odisha, Gangetic West Bengal today, in Assam and Meghalaya till Friday, in Manipur and Mizoram today, and in sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim on Monday.
