India's aluminium output in Apr-Jun at 1.04 mln tn, up 1.2% on year

MUMBAI – India's primary aluminium production in the June quarter was up 1.2% on year at 1.04 mln tn, the mines ministry said in a release. In the same period last year, the country's aluminium production was 1.03 mln tn.
China is the world's largest aluminium producer and accounted for over 59% of global production last year. In 2023, primary aluminium production in India, the second-largest producer, was 4.04 mln tn.
According to the International Aluminium Institute's report, global production of primary aluminium fell 3.2% on month to 5.94 mln tn in June. However, on an annual basis, production was up 3.2% from 5.76 mln tn a year ago.
In India, production of key minerals such as iron ore and limestone continued to show robust growth in Apr-Jun, after reaching record production levels in 2023-24, according to the release. India's iron-ore production rose to 79 mln tn in Apr-Jun from 72 mln tn in the same period last year. India is the fourth-largest iron ore producer, with a record production of 275 mln tn in 2023-24 (Apr-Mar), the release said.
India's limestone production rose to 116 mln tn in Apr-Jun from 114 mln tn a year ago, the release said. With a record production of 450 mln tn in 2023-24, India is the third-largest limestone producer globally, it said.
Continued growth in iron ore and limestone production reflects the robust demand in the steel and cement industries, the release said. Further, the growth in aluminium production depicts continued strong economic activity in user sectors such as energy, infrastructure, construction, automotive, and machinery, it said. End
