Apr-Jun major subsidies at 901.74 bln rupees, up 3.6% YoY

NEW DELHI – The government's expenditure on major subsidies in Apr-Jun rose 3.6% on year to 901.74 bln rupees due to sharply higher spending on food subsidy, data from the Controller General of Accounts showed.
The expenditure accounted for 24% of the Budget estimate of 3.812 trln rupees for 2024-25 (Apr-Mar), compared to 23% in the first quarter of the last financial year.
The food subsidy bill jumped 49.2% on year to 619.69 bln rupees in the first three months of the current financial year. On the other hand, expenditure on fertiliser subsidies was down 38.3% at 278.25 bln rupees in Apr-Jun.
