MUMBAI – The Andhra Pradesh government has decided to further subsidise the prices of rice and pulses being sold at state-run counters set up in rythu bazaars, Nadendla Manohar, state civil supplies minister, said in a press release today. The revision in prices will be effective Thursday, the release said.

Tur dal, which is currently being sold at a subsidised rate of 160 rupees per kg, has been further cut to 150 rupees per kg, according to the release. Similarly, the subsidised rate of rice has been lowered to 46 rupees a kg from 48 rupees earlier and that of steamed rice cut to 47 rupees from 49 rupees a kg.

The joint collectors have been instructed to make suitable arrangements for selling rice and tur dal at a subsidised rate from Thursday, according to the release.

In view of prevailing high prices, the government on Jul 11 announced the setting up of 284 special counters in rythu bazars to sell rice and tur dal at prices lower than the market rates.

According to the consumer affairs ministry, the average retail price of tur dal today was 167.42 rupees per kg, up nearly 2 rupees from a month ago and 32 rupees from last year. The average retail price of rice was 43.93 rupees per kg, down 1 rupee from a month ago but up nearly 3 rupees from last year.  End
