MUMBAI – The India Meteorological Department has forecast extremely heavy rainfall over parts of Mizoram and coastal Karnataka today. Extremely heavy rainfall is also likely over parts of central Maharashtra from Thursday to Saturday, over parts of east Madhya Pradesh on Thursday and Friday, over parts of Konakan and Goa on Friday and Saturday and over Gujarat on Saturday, the weather bureau said.
Over the next five days, heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely to continue over some parts of the western coast, the weather bureau said. Heavy to very heavy rainfall is also likely over some parts of northwest, central and east India during the next three to four days, the bureau said.
The weather agency warned that heavy showers can cause damage to horticulture and standing crops in some areas due to inundation. It also suggested providing mechanical support to horticultural crops and staking vegetables.
Very heavy rainfall is likely over parts of Uttarakhand till Saturday, over Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh till Thursday and over parts of northeast Rajasthan today, the bureau said.
The monsoon trough is active and near its normal position at mean sea level. The trough is likely to persist near its normal position during the next three days and gradually shift southwards, the weather bureau said.
During the past 24 hours, parts of south interior Karnataka got extremely heavy rainfall, while parts of Kerala, Gujarat, Chhattisgarh, Uttarakhand, coastal Karnataka, Konkan, Goa, central Maharashtra, Bihar, Assam and Meghalaya got heavy to very heavy rainfall, it said. End
