--IMD: India Jun 1-Jul 30 rainfall at 446.1 mm, 2% above normal
MUMBAI – The weighted average rainfall across the country today was 8.9 mm, on par with the normal 8.9 mm for the day, the India Meteorological Department said. Since Jun 1, India has received 446.1 mm of rainfall, 2% above the normal of 437.2 mm for the period, the weather bureau said.
Three of the four homogeneous regions in the country received below normal showers, while one received above normal rainfall. Rainfall was 31% below normal at 8.1 mm in east and northeast India, 57% below normal at 3.1 mm in the northwest India, and 4% below normal at 10.2 mm in central India. Rainfall was whopping 164% above normal in south peninsula at 16.6 mm.
The weather bureau has forecast extremely heavy rainfall over parts of central Maharashtra during Thu-Sat. An orange alert has been issued for heavy rains over Konkan and Goa till Saturday and for central Maharashtra till Wednesday. The interior parts of Gujarat, parts of Madhya Pradesh, and Chhattisgarh have also been issued orange alerts for heavy rainfall for the next three to four days.
The IMD has also forecast heavy rainfall over parts of east and northeastern India over the next few days. Some regions of Jharkhand, Odisha, Assam, and the plains of West Bengal are expected to get heavy rainfall during the rest of the week, the bureau said.
So far during the season, rainfall has been normal in 14 of the 36 sub-divisions in the country. Rainfall was "excess" in 13, and "deficient" in nine sub-divisions. End
