MUMBAI – The government has set up six nano urea plants, each with an annual production capacity of 266.2 mln bottles of 500 ml, and four nano diammonium phosphate plants, each with annual capacity of 107.4 mln bottles of 500 ml and 1,000 ml, Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilizers Anupriya Patel told the Rajya Sabha today.
The minister was responding to a query on the steps taken by the government to promote the use of nano fertiliser among farmers. Apart from several campaigns to promote the adoption of nano fertiliser, it is also being made available at Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samridhi Kendras, the minister said.
To increase the production of nano urea, the Department of Fertilisers has encouraged public sector undertakings, such as National Fertilizers Ltd and Rashtriya Chemicals and Fertilizers Ltd to set up nano urea plants.
To ensure increased application of nano-fertilisers through drones, 1,094 drones have been made available by fertiliser companies to women self-help groups. With the aim of providing drones to 15,000 women self-help groups, the centre has also launched the 'Namo Drone Didi' scheme.
The Indian Council of Agricultural Research has suggested the use of nano urea as foliar spray instead of conventional fertiliser, the minister said.
The department in collaboration with fertiliser companies has initiated a campaign for adoption of nano diammonium phosphate in all 15 agro-climatic zones of the country through consultations and field level demonstrations, the minister said. Further, the department has also launched a campaign for field level demonstrations and awareness programmes of nano urea in 100 districts. End
