NEW DELHI – Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha and senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi today slammed the Narendra Modi government at the Centre for trapping the country in the "Chakravyuh" of debt, injustice, unemployment, tax terrorism, and injustice.

Gandhi, while speaking in the Lower House on the Budget 2024-25 (Apr-Mar), gave reference of the Chakravyuh formation in Mahabharat period, and alleged that a lotus shaped Chakravyuh, controlled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah is trapping India. He also named industrialists Gautam Adani and Mukesh Ambani, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, and Rashtriya Swyamsevak Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat. However, he dropped taking their names after Speaker Om Birla's direction to not take the names of people who are not members of Lok Sabha.

He alleged that this modern "Chakravyuh" has trapped youth in unemployment and paper leak, farmers in debt, middle-class in tax, Micro Small and Medium Enterprises in tax terrorism, jawans in Agnipath, and scheduled caste, scheduled tribe and minorities in injustice.

"The sole aim of this budget is to strengthen the framework of monopoly business, political monopoly that destroys the democratic structure, and the framework of deep state or the agencies," Gandhi said.

Gandhi called the apprenticeship programme announced in the Budget as a "joke". He said 99% youth will not be benefitted from this programme. The main issue today is "paper leak", Gandhi said, alleging that there were 70 incidents of paper leak in last 10 years.

He also criticised the government for allocating a mere 2.5% for the education sector, lowest in 20 years. Gandhi reiterated the demand for legal guarantee for the minimum support price of all crops. He said that the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance government will pass a law in the Parliament to give legal guarantee on MSP.

He said the middle class, which earlier supported the Modi government, has been shifting towards the opposition bloc as the government has cheated them by increasing the tax rates on long-term and short-term capital gains.

In the Rajya Sabha, the members held a short discussion on the deaths of three civil services aspirants in a coaching centre in New Delhi. Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said someone will have to take responsibility for the incident. He said that the Central government sent advisories and issued guidelines on coaching centres to states and Union Territories in 2017, 2019, 2020, and 2024.

"These included guidelines for the registration of such institutes, minimum standard requirements, necessary safeguards, monitoring procedures, and penalties. In January 2024, an advisory was issued to all states. Had it been followed, this tragic incident could have been prevented," the minister said.

Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal condemned the incident and said the incident was unfortunate. "We have received information that the building was given a fire no objection certificate in July this year. Despite complaints, no inspection was done. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi and Delhi government are responsible for the incident. The Delhi government should have taken the lead in cleaning and desilting the drains before the rains," he said.  End
