Global alumina output dn 1.4% on mo in Jun, says aluminium institute

MUMBAI – Global alumina production fell 1.4% on month to 11.92 mln tn in June from 12.09 mln tn in May, according to data from the International Aluminium Institute. In June, alumina production was up 0.8% from 11.82 mln tn in the same period last year.

 

The average daily global alumina production rose to 397,400 tn in June from 389,968 tn in May because of lesser number of working days last month, according to the revised data.

 

China accounted for over 58% of global alumina production in June at 7 mln tn. The country's output was down 3.2% on month from 7.22 mln tn in May, the data showed.

 

In the Oceania region, alumina output fell to 1.33 mln tn in June from 1.43 mln tn in June. In Africa and Asia, excluding China, production rose to 1.23 mln tn from 1.12 mln tn in May. In Europe, alumina production rose to 620,000 tn in June from 601,000 tn in May, while output in South America rose to 1.05 mln tn in June from 1.02 mln tn the previous month.

 

According to the latest data, global primary aluminium production fell 3.2% in June to 5.94 mln tn from 6.14 mln tn in May. At 1638 IST, the most-active August aluminium contract on the Multi Commodity Exchange of India was up 0.8% at 213.10 rupees a kg. The three-month futures contract on the London Metal Exchange rose 0.6% to $2,283.0 per tn.  End
