MUMBAI – The Indian Sugar and Bio-Energy Manufacturers Association has presented a roadmap to the government to transition Indian sugar mills into bio-refineries, and produce energy streams other than ethanol, it said in a release today.
In a roadmap to the Ministry of Food, Public Distribution and Consumer Affairs, the association said that along with the existing portfolio of bio-ethanol, bio-electricity and bio-gas, it wants to produce sustainable aviation fuel, green hydrogen, and E-100 and 2-G ethanol. It also sought to meet international blending targets in the aviation sector, which would be applicable to India from 2027.
The association promised to work closely with the government to quickly build new, high-tech sugar mills. The collaboration is expected to set new benchmarks in bio-refinery technology, reinforcing the country's energy resilience.
Food and Consumer Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi highlighted ISMA's proactive approach and emphasis on using local resources for providing clean energy security to the rural belts of India, according to a press release. End
