Aluminium Institute says global output down 3.2% on month in June

MUMBAI – Global production of primary aluminium fell 3.2% on month to 5.94 mln tn in June, according to data by the International Aluminium Institute. On an annual basis, production was up 3.2% from 5.76 mln tn a year ago. Global daily average aluminium production rose to 198,000 tn in June from a revised figure of 197,935 tn for May.

 

In China, aluminium production fell by 118,000 tn to 3.53 mln tn in June, the data showed. The country accounts for over 59% of global production of the metal. Daily average aluminium production in China marginally fell to 117,666 tn last month from 117,677 tn in May.

 

In Asia, excluding China, production fell to 394,000 tn in June from 407,000 tn in May. In Africa, the output in May was down 3,000 tn at 130,000 tn.

 

In the Gulf Cooperation Council, the other major producing region after China, aluminium production fell by 18,000 tn to 507,000 tn in June. In western and central Europe, production fell to 234,000 last month from 236,000 tn in May. Output of the metal in North America dropped by 13,000 tn to 325,000 tn in June, and in South America, it was down 4,000 tn at 125,000 tn.

 

In May, global alumina production rose 2.4% on month to 12.04 mln tn, as per the latest available data.

 

At 1145 IST, the most-active August contract of aluminium on the Multi Commodity Exchange of India was down 0.4% at 212.80 rupees a kg. The three-month futures contract on the London Metal Exchange was down 0.2% at $2,289.50 per tn.  End
