MUMBAI – The Budget today projected the government's receipts from the telecom sector at 1.20 trln rupees in 2024-25 (Apr-Mar), unchanged from the Interim Budget. The estimate for 2024-25 is 28.6% higher than the revised estimate of 935 bln rupees for last year.
Telecom receipts mainly consist of licence fees and spectrum usage charges from telecom operators. The licence fee is levied at 8% of the adjusted gross revenue of telecom companies and makes up 14-17% of the total expenditure of telecom companies such as Bharti Airtel Ltd and Vodafone Idea Ltd.
In June, the government auctioned fifth-generation spectrum worth 113.41 bln rupees. The telecom companies have the option to make payment for the spectrum bought either in two years or 20 years. End
