NEW DELHI – Prime Minister Narendra Modi today lauded the Union Budget for 2024-25 (Apr-Mar) and said that the government is focussed on empowerment of the middle class. He said the major thrust of the Budget is on the micro, small and medium enterprises sector and on the farmers.

The Budget will give enormous opportunities to youth and will empower the middle class, dalits, tribals, and women, Modi said. It will boost the economic development of the country, he added.

"Small traders and MSMEs will get new opportunities for growth. The MSME sector is connected with the middle class. This sector offers more employment to the poor. The Budget has announced a new scheme for ease of credit for MSMEs," Modi said in a televised address to the nation after the Budget was presented in the Lok Sabha.

The prime minister said the Budget aims to make India a manufacturing hub. "Announcements have been made in the Budget to take the manufacturing and export ecosystem to every district," Modi said, adding that the Budget opens up new avenues for startups and the innovation ecosystem.

The announcement of an employment linked scheme will open job opportunities for the youth, Modi said.

The prime minister said that vegetable production clusters will boost the income of farmers. "The major focus of this Budget is the farmers of the country. We are making vegetable production clusters. This will create new markets for small farmers for selling vegetables and fruits," he said.

In the last 10 years, the National Democratic Alliance government has ensured that the poor and middle class keep getting relief in income tax, Modi said, adding that in the current Budget also tax reliefs were announced for the middle class. "This Budget will work as a catalyst to make India world's third-largest country," the PM said.  End
