NEW DELHI – The Budget today projected capital expenditure by public sector companies at 9.137 trln rupees in 2024-25 (Apr-Mar), up 8.7% from the revised estimate of 8.405 trln rupees for 2023-24. The Interim Budget had projected the capital expenditure by public sector companies for 2024-25 at 9.013 trln rupees.
Of the total capital expenditure by public sector undertakings in 2024-25, 5.164 trln rupees will be as equity support and 285.93 bln rupees will be loans from the Budget.
According to the Budget document, the highest capital expenditure will be by the Indian Railways at 2.222 trln rupees, followed by the National Highways Authority of India at 1.685 trln rupees. These two entities will together spend 42.8% of the total capital expenditure of public sector companies in 2024-25. The government will fund about 97% of the capital expenditure by the Indian Railways and NHAI from the Budget.
The Budget has projected capital expenditure of 155.00 bln rupees by Coal India Ltd, 834.16 bln rupees by Bharat Sanchar Nigam Ltd, 309.09 bln rupees by Indian Oil Corp Ltd, 308.00 bln rupees by Oil and Natural Gas Corp Ltd, and 227.00 bln rupees by NTPC Ltd. End
