Railways FY25 capex seen 2.65 trln rupees, unch from Interim

MUMBAI – The Budget has estimated the capital expenditure of the Indian Railways at 2.65 trln rupees in 2024-25 (Apr-Mar), unchanged from the Interim Budget. The estimate for 2024-25 is 1.9% higher than the revised estimate of 2.60 trln rupees for last year.

 

Of the planned capital expenditure, 2.55 trln rupees is from budgetary support and 100 bln rupees will come from extra budgetary resources, including public-private partnerships.

 

Railways will spend 523.14 bln rupees for procuring rolling stock and 346.03 bln rupees for new line construction. The national transporter will spend another 293.12 bln rupees on doubling tracks. 

 

Indian Railways' gross traffic receipts for 2024-25 are estimated at 2.78 trln rupees, up from the revised estimate of 2.58 trln rupees last year.

 

Freight revenue for the current financial year is pegged at 1.80 trln rupees, up from the revised estimate of 1.69 trln rupees for 2023-24. Revenue from passenger operations is pegged at 800 bln rupees, up from the revised estimate of 730 bln rupees.  End
