FY25 net borrow from small savings seen at 4.20 trln rupees

NEW DELHI – The government aims to borrow 4.201 trln rupees on a net basis from the National Small Savings Fund in 2024-25 (Apr-Mar) to part finance the fiscal deficit. The borrowing from small savings in 2024-25 is 461 bln rupees lower than the 4.662 trln rupees projected in the Interim Budget.

 

The borrowing from small savings will account for 26.0% of the projected fiscal deficit of 16.133 trln rupees, as per the full Budget presented today by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in Parliament. 

 

The government's borrowing from small savings is projected to fall 6.9% in 2024-25 from 4.514 trln rupees borrowed in 2023-24. The government had financed 27.3% of its fiscal deficit through borrowing from the small savings fund in the last fiscal year.

 

The net collections in the government-run small savings schemes are projected to fall 7.9% to 3.882 trln rupees in 2024-25. The collections rose 38.1% to 4.217 trln rupees in 2023-24.
