FY25 capex seen at 11.1 trln rupees, unchanged from Interim

NEW DELHI – The Budget today projected the central government's capital expenditure for the current financial year ending March at 11.11 trln rupees, unchanged from the Interim Budget. The capital expenditure for 2024-25 is up 17.1% from 9.49 trln rupees last year.
The Centre's effective capital expenditure for 2024-25, including grants in aid for creation of capital assets, is projected at 15.02 trln rupees, up 19.9% from 12.52 trln rupees in 2023-24. The outlay for capital expenditure for 2024-25 will be 3.4% of GDP, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said announcing the Budget in Parliament.
"We will endeavour to maintain strong fiscal support for infrastructure over the next five years, in conjunction with imperatives of other priorities and fiscal consolidation," Sitharaman said.
The Narendra Modi government has been going big on its capital expenditure outlay in the past few budgets to crowd-in private investment. In the last five years, the government has increased capital expenditure by more than three times. End
