India's tea exports rise 21.4% on year to 20.7 bln rupees in Jan-Apr

MUMBAI – India's tea exports in Jan-Apr rose 21.4% to 20.75 bln rupees from 17.1 bln rupees in the year-ago period, according to data released by the Tea Board India. In volume terms, tea exports during the period were up 35.7% at 84.51 mln kg.
The average unit value of tea exported from India during the 4-month period dropped 10.5% to 245.52 rupees per kg from 274.45 rupees per kg a year ago, as per the data.
At 49.42 mln kg, north India had the biggest share in the country's tea exports during the first four months of the year, while exports from south India were 35.09 mln kg, the region-wise export data showed. While exports from north India were up 24.8% from 39.60 mln kg a year ago, those from south India were up 54.8% from 22.67 mln kg.
Tea exports from north India fetched 13.33 bln rupees in Jan-Apr, up from 11.53 bln rupees a year ago, while exports from south India earned 7.42 bln rupees, up from 5.56 bln rupees, the data showed.
The average unit price realised on the export of tea from north India dropped to 269.72 rupees per kg during the period from 291.28 rupees per kg a year ago. Similarly, the unit price realised on the export of tea from south India fell to 211.44 rupees per kg from 245.07 rupees per kg. End
