MUMBAI – The India Meteorological Department has forecast extremely heavy rainfall over a few parts of Konkan, which includes Mumbai, and ghat areas of madhya Maharashtra during the next 4-5 days. In this period, many parts of these regions are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall, the agency said.

Rainfall in the range of 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm is seen as heavy rainfall. Very heavy rainfall is when it rains between 115.6 mm and 204.4 mm. Rainfall of 204.5 mm or more is classified as extremely heavy.

Many parts of interior Maharashtra are predicted to receive moderate rainfall, the weather bureau said. The monsoon was very active over south Konkan and south Madhya Maharashtra with heavy to very heavy rainfall on Wednesday, the agency said. This weather condition is due to the formation of a low pressure area over central and adjoining north Bay of Bengal and associated strengthening of westerly winds, it said.  End
