MUMBAI – India's domestic airlines carried 13.21 mln passengers in June, compared with 12.49 mln passengers in the same period last year, according to data from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation. In Jan-Jun 2024, domestic airlines carried 79.35 mln passengers, compared with 76.09 mln in the year-ago period.

 

The market share of India's largest airline, InterGlobe Aviation-operated IndiGo, fell to 60.8% in June from 61.6% a month ago. The company's market share had risen for three consecutive months, between March and May. Budget carrier Spicejet's market share fell to 3.8% from 4% in the same period.

 

Tata Group-owned Air India saw its market share increase to 14.6% in June from 13.7% in May, and Vistara's market share rose to 9.7% in June from 9.2% a month ago. Akasa Air's market share was unchanged from May at 4.8%.

 

In June, IndiGo, SpiceJet, Air India, Akasa Air and Vistara, all saw a decline in passenger load factor. The passenger load factor, which shows occupancy rates, was the highest for Spicejet at 91.5%, followed by Vistara at 91%.

 

IndiGo's passenger load factor declined to 87% in June from 88.4% a month ago, and Air India's passenger load factor fell to 84.7% from 86.9% in the same period. 

 

Today, shares of InterGlobe Aviation closed 1% higher at 4,431.10 rupees on the National Stock Exchange, while those of SpiceJet ended 3.2% higher at 57.70 rupees on the BSE.  End
