MUMBAI - The weighted average rainfall across the country today was 10.6 mm, 6% above the normal of 10 mm for the day, the India Meteorological Department said. Since Jun 1, India has received 298.3 mm of rainfall, 2% below the normal of 304.2 mm for the period, the weather bureau said.
Two out of four homogenous regions in the country received below normal showers today, while the other two received above normal rainfall. Rainfall was 43% below normal at 8.1 mm in east and northeast India and 73% below normal at 2.1 mm in northwest India. The rainfall was 22% above normal at 14.4 mm in central India and 178% above normal in the south peninsula at 19.5 mm.
So far during the season, the rainfall has been normal in 19 of the 36 sub-divisions in the country. The rainfall was 'large excess' in two, 'excess' in six, and 'deficient' in nine sub-divisions.
The India Meteorological Department has forecast extremely heavy rainfall over parts of Konkan and Goa today and on Thursday and Friday, over madhya Maharashtra during Thu-Sat, over Gujarat, south interior Karnataka, and Tamil Nadu today, and over coastal Karnataka till Wednesday. It has also forecast heavy-to-very heavy rainfall in some places in Konkan, Goa, madhya Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka, Kerala and Mahe during the next five days.
Very heavy rainfall is likely over Tamil Nadu on Wednesday, over west Madhya Pradesh till Wednesday, over Vidarbha today and on Fri-Sat, over Chhattisgarh during Fri-Sat, and over coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, and Telangana during Thu-Sat, the weather bureau said. Very heavy rainfall is likely over Odisha on Friday and Saturday and over northeastern India on Saturday, the agency said.
Heavy rainfall is very likely over Telangana, coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Madhya Pradesh, Vidarbha, and Chhattisgarh over the next five days, Tamil Nadu till Thursday, and over northern interior Karnataka today and on Fri-Sat.
Some parts of Uttarakhand and east Rajasthan are likely to receive very heavy rainfall on Wednesday and Friday, the department said. End
