Tea Board orders closure of manufacturing in key producing states

MUMBAI – The Tea Board of India has issued an order for the closure of manufacturing at factories in Darjeeling, Sikkim, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Dooars in West Bengal, and Terai region in Bihar. However, the reason for the closure was not specified in the order.
According to an order released today, the last date of plucking or receiving of green leaves for all tea factories will be Nov 30 and the last date of processing of green leaf at the factory for all units will be Dec 2.
The last date for intimation or declaration to the board by all the units regarding closure of their manufacturing will be Dec 3, the Tea Board said. The last date for completion of sorting, gapping, packing and moving the packed teas to the notified packed tea storage area with invoice marking will be Dec 13, the board said.
The order is issued based on the decision taken by the board in the meeting held on Sep 26, 2018. "Gardens which have adopted pruning/other cultivation practices other than traditional method and expect early crop/as well as manufactures of orthodox, green and specialty teas, may seek exemption from respective office of the board. However, this order is issued well in advance to enable the tea gardens and tea factories to make plans accordingly," the order said. End
