--IMD: India Jun 1-Jul 15 rainfall at 287.7 mm, 2% below normal 

 

MUMBAI – The weighted average rainfall across the country today was 9.2 mm, 5% below the normal of 9.6 mm for the day, the India Meteorological Department said. Since Jun 1, India has received 287.7 mm of rainfall, 2% below the normal of 294.2 mm for the period, the weather bureau said.

 

Two out of four homogenous regions in the country received below normal showers today, while the other two received above normal rainfall. Rainfall was 54% below normal at 6.6 mm in east and northeast India and 61% below normal at 2.8 mm in northwest India. The rainfall was 30% above normal at 14.3 mm in central India and 77% above normal in the south peninsula at 12.2 mm.

 

So far during the season, the rainfall has been normal in 18 of the 36 sub-divisions in the country. The rainfall was 'large excess' in three, 'excess' in four, and 'deficient' in 11 sub-divisions.

 

The India Meteorological Department today forecast extremely heavy rainfall over Gujarat, coastal Karnataka and south interior Karnataka till Tuesday. Madhya Maharashtra, Konkan, including Mumbai, and Goa may also see similar rainfall activity till Tuesday, the weather bureau said.

 

Kerala and Mahe are also likely to receive extremely heavy rainfall today, the weather bureau said. The agency predicted similar weather over Saurashtra and Kutch on Tuesday. 

 

Heavy to very heavy rainfall is likely over a few areas of Konkan, Goa, and Madhya Maharashtra till Friday, the weather agency said. Gujarat, Karnataka, Kerala and Mahe are also likely to receive similar rainfall over the same period, the agency said. 

 

Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, and Telangana are likely to receive very heavy showers today, Thursday and Friday, the agency said. Similar weather is likely over west Madhya Pradesh till Tuesday, it said. 

 

Uttarakhand is likely to receive very heavy showers on Wednesday and Thursday, and over east Rajasthan on Thursday, the weather agency said. Very heavy rainfall is predicted over Odisha today and Friday, the agency said. End
