--Govt: Next India-EU free trade pact talks in Sep

NEW DELHI – India and the European Union will hold the next round of negotiations for a proposed free trade agreement in September, the commerce ministry said today. This will be the ninth round of negotiations between the sides.

The two sides held the previous round of discussions in June. They held 90 technical sessions and discussed 21 policy areas last month, the ministry said.

After a gap of nine years, India and the European Union initiated talks for a trade agreement in June 2023. In 2007, they had launched negotiations for a broad-based trade and investment agreement, but those discussions were suspended in 2014 following differences over market access.

The European Union is among the top destinations for Indian exports. India exported goods worth $75.93 bln to the European Union in 2023-24 (Apr-Mar), as per the data available with the commerce ministry. India also imported goods worth $59.38 bln from the EU during the same period.  End

US$1 = 83.59 rupees
