MUMBAI – Turmeric futures on the NCDEX fell Wednesday after hitting record highs for five consecutive sessions. Jeera futures, meanwhile, rose, driven by active buying from domestic processors and export-oriented participants. Coriander futures also rose, while pepper fell.

The most active December contract of TURMERIC fell 1.6% to INR 26,550 per 100 kilograms. Turmeric futures likely fell as elevated prices triggered profit-booking, market participants said. However, the overall trend is expected to remain supportive for "a few more days," backed by steady domestic and export demand, SMC Investments and Advisors said in a note.

The most active December contract of CORIANDER rose 1.4% to INR 16,360 per 100 kg, supported by lower arrivals and declining carryover stocks, coupled with expectations of a stronger festive-season demand, SMC said. However, limited buying at elevated prices may restrict gains, the brokerage added. SMC sees support for the spice at around INR 15,607.33-INR 15,870.67 per 100 kg and resistance at INR 16,576.67-INR 17,019.33 per 100 kg.

The most active November JEERA contract rose 0.9% to INR 25,740 per 100 kg, supported by near-term supply tightness and shrinking availability of premium-quality bold seed, Kedia Advisory said in a note. "Farmers have also been holding stocks in anticipation of better prices during the October sowing period," the note said.

The most active October contract of PEPPER fell 0.1% to INR 780.4 per kg. SMC expects pepper futures to trade sideways with a "slightly firm bias between INR 777-785 per kg range." Though seasonal buying supports prices in the long term, higher supplies from Sri Lanka and other origins are expected to weigh on the spice.
