MUMBAI – Turmeric futures on the NCDEX fell Monday, tracking a decline in quality. Jeera and coriander futures also registered a fall on the exchange. Pepper futures remained flat.

At 1603 IST, the most active October contract of TURMERIC was down nearly 1% at INR 20,100 per 100 kilograms. Turmeric fell, pressured by a decline in spot prices in key markets along with inferior quality arrivals, which reduced demand for the spice, according to SMC Investments and Advisors Ltd. With several months remaining in the crop cycle, better yield expectations continue to temper immediate supply concerns, Ankit Kapoor, director and co-founder of Commodities Samachar Securities Pvt. Ltd., said in a note. SMC sees support for the spices at INR 19,522.67-INR 19,895.33 per 100 kg. The brokerage expects resistance at INR 20,505.33-INR 20,742.67 per 100 kg.

CORIANDER's most active October contract fell nearly 3% to INR 13,900 per 100 kg on the NCDEX. Rainfall over the past few days has improved soil moisture in coriander-growing areas and could encourage farmers to shift from weather-sensitive jeera to coriander, Kapoor said. Russia has become a significant global coriander supplier, which adds another layer of pressure on domestic coriander prices, he added. The current market price of the spice is below SMC's expectation of INR 13,959.33-INR 14,134.67 per 100 kg. Resistance is likely at INR 14,442.67-INR 14,575.33 per 100 kg, the brokerage added.

The most active October contract of JEERA was down slightly at INR 21,810 per 100 kg. "Jeera is currently consolidating rather than following a one-day trend," Kapoor said. However, the broader sentiment remains firm, with traders monitoring the interaction between crop expectations, weather, export demand, and the transition towards the next crop, he added. SMC sees support for the spice at INR 21,561.67-INR 21,653.33 per 100 kg, while resistance is expected at INR 21,888.33-INR 22,031.67.

PEPPER's most active October contract was flat at INR 729.20 per kg. Pepper prices are likely to stay in a range between INR 726 and INR 734 per kg due to subdued buying at elevated levels in the absence of a fresh market trigger, according to SMC.
