NEW DELHI – The formation of several weather systems over west India is likely to renew intense weather activity over parts of West India till Tuesday, the India Meteorological Department said. Heavy rainfall is likely over central Maharashtra on Monday and Tuesday, while thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are forecast over multiple parts of west India till Tuesday, the weather department said. These are likely to be triggered by the presence of a cyclonic circulation over Marathwada and a trough running from this circulation to the Gulf of Mannar, along with a low pressure area lying over Saurashtra and the adjoining northeast Arabian Sea.

A low pressure area is likely to form over the Andaman Sea on Saturday under the influence of an upper air cyclonic circulation over north Thailand, the weather bureau said. This low pressure area is expected to intensify gradually and move towards the south Odisha and north Andhra Pradesh coasts in the subsequent three to four days, bringing heavy rains to south Odisha and north Andhra coasts in the next three to four days.

A trough runs from Sikkim to north Odisha, the bureau said. Under the influence of this system, along with the formation and intensification of the low pressure area, parts of Odisha may receive heavy rainfall intermittently till Wednesday. Parts of West Bengal and Sikkim are likely to get heavy rainfall on Friday, while Andaman and Nicobar Islands may receive heavy rainfall from Friday to Sunday, and Bihar till Friday. In northeast India, the presence of an upper air cyclonic circulation over Assam is expected to trigger heavy rainfall over parts of Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura on Saturday, while Assam and Meghalaya may receive heavy rainfall intermittently till Monday.

The low pressure area is also likely to cause heavy showers over parts of Chhattisgarh from Sunday to Wednesday, the weather department said.

A western disturbance acting as a cyclonic circulation lies over Himachal Pradesh, while an upper air cyclonic circulation lies over west Uttar Pradesh. Under the influence of these weather systems, heavy showers are expected over parts of east Rajasthan till Friday, the department said.

The trough running from Marathwada to the Gulf of Mannar is expected to trigger heavy rainfall over parts of Kerala till Sunday, while Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, and Kairaikal may receive heavy showers till Wednesday, the weather bureau said. Most parts of Karnataka are likely to receive heavy rainfall on Sunday and Monday, while parts of Andhra Pradesh may receive heavy showers intermittently till Wednesday. Telangana is likely to receive heavy rainfall from Sunday to Wednesday.

Hot and humid weather conditions are expected over parts of Kerala till Friday, the weather department said.

Conditions are becoming favourable for the withdrawal of the southwest monsoon from parts of west Rajasthan on Saturday, the department said.  End
