MUMBAI – The US Department of Agriculture has forecast global oilseed production in 2026-27 (May-Apr) at nearly 720.0 million tonnes, up from 718.2 million tonnes projected in June, according to the World Agricultural Supply and Demand Estimates report published in July. The upward revision is driven by higher rapeseed, sunflower seed, soybean, and cottonseed production.
The projection for rapeseed output is higher for both Russia and the US due to a larger acreage. The sunflower seed production forecast has been raised for Russia but reduced for Ukraine. Global soybean production forecast is raised as higher acreage in the US and Canada is expected to partially offset the reductions in Russia.
Global ending stocks of oilseeds in 2026-27 are estimated at 146.3 million tonnes, down from 147 million tonnes projected in June, according to the department. Global trade of oilseeds is projected to be higher at 218.52 million tonnes from 217.03 million tonnes pegged in June.
SOYBEAN
Global 2026-27 soybean outlook is for higher production, increased exports and crushing, but lower beginning and ending stocks. The USDA has pegged global soybean production at 441.70 million tonnes, a tad higher from 441.34 million tonnes estimated in June. Global beginning stocks are revised downwards to 125.33 million tonnes from 125.52 million tonnes in June.
Global soybean exports are projected at 190.4 million tonnes, up from 189.2 million tonnes seen in June due to increases in US and Brazil shipments. Global soybean imports are forecast at 189.3 million tonnes, up from 188.0 million tonnes seen in June. Ending stocks of soybean across the globe are estimated at 124.2 million tonnes, a tad down from 124.9 million tonnes, mainly on lower stocks for Brazil, the USDA said.
For India, 2026-27 soybean meal production is projected at 8.0 million tonnes, unchanged from June. India is one of the largest importers of soyoil and an exporter of soybean meal.
The department pegs global output of major vegetable oils, which include palm, sunflower seed, soybean, and rapeseed, at 244.67 million tonnes, slightly higher than 244.13 million tonnes seen in June. End
