NEW DELHI – NITI Aayog held discussions with stakeholders Friday on the implementation and operational framework of the SHANTI Act 2025. The discussions focused on the Act's draft rules, regulations, and related foreign direct investment policy provisions, NITI Aayog said in a release Saturday.
The Sustainable Harnessing and Advancement of Nuclear Energy for Transforming India, or SHANTI Act 2025, enables consolidation and modernisation of India's nuclear legal framework. It supports the country's clean-energy transition and the long-term objective of achieving 100 gigawatt nuclear energy capacity by 2047. The SHANTI Act 2025, passed in December, repealed the Atomic Energy Act, 1962, and the Civil Liability for Nuclear Damage Act, 2010.
During the meeting, stakeholders examined the financial mechanisms and risk-mitigation frameworks needed to support the Act's implementation. "The focus was on the operationalization phase, with emphasis on strengthening domestic manufacturing capabilities, ensuring operational readiness, and building a skilled workforce to sustain the ecosystem," the release said.
Chaired by NITI Aayog member Abhay Karandikar, the stakeholder consultation also deliberated on enhancing supply chain resilience and designing dedicated capacity-building programmes to support industrial scaling, the release said. End
