India rainfall 27% below normal Fri, season's deficit at 15%, says IMD

MUMBAI – India recorded 6.7 millimetres of rainfall on Friday, 27?low the normal of 9.2 mm, according to data from the India Meteorological Department. During Jun. 1–Jul. 10, the country received 212.1 mm of rainfall, 15?low the normal of 248.3 mm for the period.
Of the four homogeneous regions of the country, two — central India and South Peninsula — registered "large deficit" rains on Friday, while east and northeast received "deficit" rains. Northwest received "excess" rains on Friday.
The east and northeast received 12.1 mm of rainfall on Friday, central India recorded 3.6 mm of rain, while the South Peninsula registered 2.2 mm. The northwest registered 10.2 mm of rainfall on Friday.
On Friday, Uttarakhand received the highest rainfall at 28.9 mm, followed by West Uttar Pradesh at 28.1 mm, according to IMD data.
Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, rainfall was "large excess" in six, "excess" in one, "large deficient" in 16, "deficient" in seven, and "normal" in four, according to the data. There was no rainfall in two subdivisions. End
