MUMBAI – After opening marginally higher from the previous day's close, the iCOMDEX Composite index of the Multi Commodity Exchange of India fell Friday, led by the bullion index. At 1104 IST, the Composite index traded at 22624.00 points, down 0.4%. It had opened at 22721.76 points, up from the previous close of 22713.63 points.

The bullion index was down 0.7%, with gold down 0.5% and silver down 1.3%. The uncertainties around the US-Iran war have resulted in a rise in oil prices, traders said. The fear about a rise in inflation on this account has brought down bullion rates, they argued.

The energy index traded 0.7% higher as crude oil rose 0.8% and natural gas was flat. The base metal index was up 0.1%, with aluminium and copper up 0.3% and 0.1%, respectively. Zinc was up 0.07% but lead was down 0.20%.

The MCX iCOMDEX comprises a series of real-time commodity futures indices and tracks the performance of a basket of commodity futures. It serves as a benchmark for market movements in bullion, base metals, and energy.  End
