India Thu rainfall 9% above normal, season's deficit at 14%, says IMD

MUMBAI – India recorded 9.5 millimetres of rainfall on Thursday, 9% above the normal of 8.7 mm, according to data from the India Meteorological Department. During Jun. 1–Jul. 9, the country recorded 205 mm of rainfall, 14% below the normal of 239.1 mm for the period.
Of the four homogeneous regions of the country, northwest received "large excess" rains on Thursday at 12.4 mm, while the east and northeast region recorded normal rainfall at 13.7 mm. Central India with 7.5 mm and the southern peninsula with 4.9 mm were in deficit. Uttarakhand received the highest amount of rainfall Thursday at 52.4 mm, followed by West Uttar Pradesh at 49.7 mm, as per IMD data.
Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, rainfall was "large excess" in seven, "excess" in two, "large deficient" in 10, "deficient" in four, and "normal" in 11, according to the data. There was no rainfall in two subdivisions. End
