MUMBAI – Futures contracts of all spices on the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange closed higher on Thursday. Coriander futures rose amid sustained demand, partly recovering the recent losses.

The most active August contract of CORIANDER closed over 2% higher at INR 15,580 per 100 kilograms, partly recouping its losses in the last two sessions. "Prices are currently being supported by good demand amid a decline in local supplies," SMC Investments and Advisors Ltd. said in a note.

The brokerage had expected the contract to close higher if it breached INR 15,338 level. On the upside, the brokerage sees further room towards INR 15,932 level. However, it did not rule out intermittent price corrections as demand is expected to slow down at higher price levels.

The most active August contract of TURMERIC was up 2.7% at INR 18,370 per 100 kg, extending gains for the fifth straight session. "Turmeric futures are expected to get support at prevailing prices..., supported by steady buying from domestic spice manufacturers alongside improving export demand," SMC said.

The most active August contract of JEERA was up 0.4% at INR 20,690 per 100 kg, and gains were capped due to restricted buying at higher price levels. Going ahead, need-based purchases are likely to weigh on prices. "NCDEX warehouse stocks have shown a steady build-up, reducing the urgency for spot procurement by traders," Kedia Stocks & Commodities Research said, adding that large consumers are also preferring hand-to-mouth buying.
