India Jan-May tea exports down 15% on year at INR 26.13 billion, says Tea Board

MUMBAI – India exported 85.97 million kilograms of tea in Jan–May, down 17.9% from a year ago, according to data released by the Tea Board India. The exports fetched India INR 26.13 billion, down 14.6% on year.

 

Tea exports from northern India during the five months fell nearly 13% on year to INR 17.94 billion whereas exports from southern India fell 18% to INR 8.19 billion. In volume terms, exports from northern India fell 14.6% on year to 57.04 million kg while those from southern India declined 23.7% to 28.93 million kg.

 

The average price of tea exported from north India was INR 314.58 per kg in Jan-May, up from INR 308.82 per kg a year ago, the data showed. The average price of tea exported from southern India rose to INR 283.04 per kg from INR 263.32 per kg a year ago. The average unit price of tea exported pan-India rose to INR 303.97 per kg in Jan-May from INR 292.34 per kg in the year-ago period, according to the data.  End
