MUMBAI – Coriander futures fell further on the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange as traders resorted to profit-booking. Jeera futures ended lower amid declining buying interest at higher levels, and turmeric futures were largely flat.
The most active August contract of CORIANDER closed 3% lower at INR 15,234 per 100 kilograms as traders continued to book profits, extending losses for the second session. On Tuesday, the contract had hit a record high of INR 16,188 amid declining arrivals, healthy industrial demand, and optimism over export enquiries.
However, buying interest slowed down at higher price levels. Kotak Neo sees scope for further downside to around INR 15,071. The contract is only likely to trend upwards again if it breaches INR 15,887.
The most active August contract of TURMERIC was largely flat at INR 17,966 per 100 kg. Steady buying by domestic spice manufacturers along with improving export demand are likely to support prices. "Although arrivals have picked up across key producing regions, robust offtake has comfortably absorbed the additional supply, allowing prices to sustain their upward momentum," SMC Investments and Advisors Ltd. said.
The most active August contract of JEERA was down 1.2% at INR 20,600 per 100 kg, as buying interest tapered down at higher levels. However, declining arrivals are likely to limit the fall in prices. "Arrivals across major mandis declined by around 1% to 5,906 tonnes compared to the same time last year, signalling the onset of tightening supplies," SMC said.
