India Wed rainfall 39% above normal, season's deficit at 15%, says IMD

MUMBAI – India recorded 12.2 millimetres of rainfall on Wednesday, 39?ove the normal of 8.8 mm, according to data from the India Meteorological Department. During Jun. 1–Jul. 8, the country recorded 195.5 mm of rainfall, 15?low the normal of 230.4 mm for the period.

 

Of the four homogeneous regions of the country, northwest and central India received "large excess" rains Wednesday, at 9.5 mm and 18.5 mm, respectively, while east and northeast region witnessed normal rainfall at 11.6 mm. South peninsula, too, received normal rain at 6.3 mm Wednesday.  

 

Coastal Karnataka received the highest amount of rainfall Wednesday at 49.9 mm, followed by Gujarat region at 45.3 mm, as per IMD data.

 

Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, rainfall was "large excess" in 10, "excess" in three, "large deficient" in nine, "deficient" in seven, and "normal" in six, according to the data. There was no rainfall in one subdivision.  End
