MUMBAI – The iCOMDEX Composite index of the Multi Commodity Exchange of India opened higher Wednesday as energy and base metal indices rose following a fresh flare-up in the West Asian region after the US struck on Iran in response to Iranian attacks on vessels in the Strait of Hormuz. The resultant uncertainties caused oil and base metals prices to rise while bullion prices went down.
The iCOMDEX Composite index opened at 22710.06 points, up from the previous day's close of 22685.45 points. At 1017 IST, it traded 0.03% up at 22692.39 points.
The bullion index, a constituent of the Composite, was down 0.50%, with gold trading down 0.43% and silver in the negative territory by 0.76%. The energy index was up 2.44%, following a 2.70% rise in crude oil, and a 0.06% rise in natural gas.
The base metal index was in the positive territory by 0.50%, with all metals covered under the index showing upward movement. Aluminium, copper, lead and zinc had risen in the range of 0.12% to 0.90%.
