India Tue rainfall 51% above normal, season's deficit at 17% - IMD

MUMBAI – India recorded 12.5 millimetres of rainfall on Tuesday, 51% above the normal of 8.3 mm, according to data from the India Meteorological Department. During Jun. 1–Jul. 7, the country recorded 183.3 mm of rainfall, 17% below the normal of 221.6 mm for the period.
All four homogeneous regions in the country received 'normal' to 'above-normal' rains Tuesday. Rainfall in the east & northeast, northwest India, and south India was 'normal' at 13.7 mm, 4.8 mm, and 6.3 mm. Meanwhile, central India received 'large excess' rains at 22.7 mm, as most regions barring Marathwada and Vidarbha received excess showers than the normal, the IMD data showed.
Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, rainfall was 'large excess' in 11, 'excess' in three, 'large deficient' in eight, 'deficient' in seven, and 'normal' in five, according to the data. There was no rainfall in two subdivisions. End
