India power generation in June up 8.2% on year at 142 billion kWh

KOLKATA – India's electricity generation in June increased by 8.2% on year but fell marginally by 0.6% on month to 142.03 billion kilowatt-hours, data released by the Central Electricity Authority of India showed. In June 2025, total power generation from all sources stood at 131.21 billion kilowatt-hours. In May 2026, it stood at 142.90 billion kilowatt-hours. The total electricity generated includes power bought from Bhutan.

 

Thermal power generation increased by 12.5% on year to 122.37 billion kilowatt-hours, and nuclear power generation rose 23.3% on year at 5.54 billion kilowatt-hours. However, hydropower generation declined by 20.4% to 13.36 billion kilowatt-hours, and the power imported from Bhutan fell by 34.1% to 0.74 billion kilowatt-hours in June. 

 

For Apr-Jun, total electricity produced was 422.02 billion kilowatt-hours, up 6% on year. India has set a total electricity generation target of 1.72 trillion kilowatt-hours for 2026-27 (Apr-Mar).
