MUMBAI – Coriander futures on the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange ended lower on Tuesday, snapping an over three-week rally in prices. Despite prices correcting, analysts expect coriander prices to remain firm in the coming weeks, supported by sustained demand and declining arrivals.

The most active August contract of CORIANDER closed 1.4% lower at INR 15,680 per 100 kilograms, after hitting a fresh record high of INR 16,188 intraday. The contract ended down as traders booked profits at higher prices. The contract has been on a winning streak since Jun. 12.

"Despite the possibility of some near-term corrective weakness, coriander prices are expected to remain steady to firm, supported by healthy industrial demand and optimism over export enquiries," SMC Investments and Advisors Ltd. said.

The brokerage expects the contract to trade in a range with a firm bias in a range of INR 15,830-INR 15,970 due to firm demand amid declining arrivals.

The most active August contract of TURMERIC was up 0.3% at INR 17,936 per 100 kg, extending gains for the third session. "Prices are expected to follow positive trajectory with the expected range between INR 17,490–INR 18,290, supported by sustained buying from domestic spice manufacturers and improving export demand," SMC said.

The most active August contract of JEERA was up 1.4% at INR 20,850 per 100 kg, after hitting a week-low of INR 20,500 in the previous session. Prices rose slightly Tuesday as buying interest improved at lower price levels. In addition, shrinking supplies of export-grade high-purity bold seed were also supporting prices.

"While total crop supplies remain adequate, the availability of high-purity bold seeds has reduced considerably as daily arrivals across major markets such as Unjha and Rajasthan continue to decline after the peak harvest season," Kedia Stocks & Commodities Research, said.
