MUMBAI – Coriander futures contracts hit a fresh record high on the National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange on Monday, amid concerns over tight supply and firm demand. Jeera contract fell further as traders continued to book profits.
The most active August contract of CORIANDER closed nearly 2% higher at INR 15,890 per 100 kilograms, after hitting a fresh record high of INR 15,990 per 100 kg intraday. The contract has been on a winning streak since Jun. 12, supported by declining arrivals, firm domestic demand, and optimism over export enquiries. However, prices are expected to face resistance at higher levels, as demand is expected to slow despite the reduction in arrivals, analysts said.
The most active August contract of TURMERIC was up nearly 2% at INR 17,900 per 100 kg, extending gains for the second session. Prices are likely to remain elevated, supported by improving physical buying. "Expectations of stronger export demand, along with steady procurement by stockists and domestic processors, are likely to absorb the higher market arrivals and keep prices well supported in the near term," SMC Investments and Advisors Ltd. said.
The most active August contract of JEERA ended 0.6% down at INR 20,560 per 100 kg, extending losses for the second session. Prices fell as traders booked profits after the recent rally despite continued concerns over tightening supplies in major markets. "Arrivals across major mandis declined by around 1% week-on-week to 5,906 tonnes, signalling the onset of tightening supplies," SMC said.
"Immediate support is placed at INR 20,360, followed by INR 20,290, while resistance is seen at INR 20,520. A sustained move above this level could extend gains towards INR 20,610," Kedia Stocks & Commodities Research, said.
