MUMBAI – Prices of mustard seed were down Monday owing to low demand for the oilseed amid heavy rainfall, traders said. Prices of soybean and groundnut were steady on the lack of fresh cues. Arrivals of all oilseeds were steady in key markets across the country owing to heavy rainfall and farmers being busy in their fields, sowing kharif crops, traders said.

 

MUSTARD seed prices were down in Kota, Rajasthan, by INR 150 at INR 7,500 per 100 kilograms on low demand, local trader Mahesh Sameriya said. Mustard seed arrivals in Kota were down by 2,000 bags at 10,000 bags because of heavy rainfall in the region, he said. The India Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for east Rajasthan till Thursday. An orange alert is issued when rainfall is likely to exceed 115.6 millimetres and go up to 204.4 millimetres.

 

Mustard seed arrivals across the country in June are estimated at 1 million tonnes, Jaipur-based Marudhar Trading Agency said in a report. Total arrivals from March to June have been pegged at 6.5 million tonnes, it said. Mills in India crushed 900,000 tonnes of mustard seed in the month, taking the crushing figure for the June quarter to 5.3 million tonnes, the agency said. According to the release, stocks of mustard seed with farmers as on Jun. 30 were 5.1 million tonnes and those with processors and stockists were 1.4 million tonnes.

 

Similar was the case with SOYBEAN and GROUNDNUT arrivals in key markets in Gujarat Monday. The weather department has issued a red alert in Gujarat till Tuesday owing to extremely heavy rainfall over the region.  

 

Soybean prices at Ratlam in Madhya Pradesh remained steady around INR 3,225-INR 7,450 per 100 kg, said Narendra Porwal, a local trader. Arrivals were steady at 2,800 bags (1 bag = 40 kg). In Kota, soybean prices were unchanged at INR 6,870, Sameriya said. Arrivals were around 12,000 bags, slightly up from the previous day, he said. Even though arrivals rose slightly, prices remained steady as there was buying at the current levels, traders said. 
 

Groundnut prices in Ratlam were steady at INR 3,350-INR 8,050 per 100 kg, Porwal said. Arrivals were also steady from the previous day at 2,500 bags (1 bag = 30 kg), he added. Another trader from Gujarat's Gondal district said prices of soybean and groundnut were steady from the previous day due to lack of key triggers.
