E-way bill generation rises 14.5% in June, fastest in 4 months

NEW DELHI – The number of e-way bills generated in June rose 14.5% on year to 136.77 million, according to data from the Goods and Services Tax Network. The 14.5% on-year growth in e-way bill generation in June was the fastest in the last four months.
In May, e-way bills generated had risen 10.9% on year to 136.08 million. An e-way bill is a GST document for the transport of goods worth more than INR 50,000 within or outside a state. The number of e-way bills generated is considered a lead indicator of economic activity and domestic trade.
An increase in e-way bills generally suggests GST collections would be robust the following month, as most transactions will be reflected in the next month's collections. India's GST collections grew 13.9% on year to INR 1.948 trillion in June. End
