MUMBAI – The domestic headline equity indices started the week on a positive note, extending their rise for the fourth session with concern about the US-Iran conflict easing and hopes of improving crude oil supply through the Strait of Hormuz leading to lower prices. The indices settled around 0.7% higher each, with the Nifty 50 at a near-three-month closing high.
Monday, the Nifty 50 closed at 24430.35, up 159.50 points from Friday's close. The BSE Sensex settled at 78285.07, up 521.16 points. At 1504 IST, the September futures contract of Brent Crude was down 0.5% at $71.73 a barrel. Analysts see the equity market retaining its momentum in the near term with the support of lower crude oil prices and easing concern about the war in West Asia.
Following the positive developments in the global scenario, market participants will focus on the June quarter earnings in the coming days. Information technology giant Tata Consultancy Services will kick-start the earnings season Thursday by detailing its financial results. Motilal Oswal Financial Services expects the cumulative net profit of the Nifty 50 constituents to rise 10% on year in the June quarter, according to a strategy report by the firm. It sees the cumulative sales of these companies rising 16% on year in Apr-Jun.

The index closed higher for the fifth straight session, with most of its constituents rising. "A pre-sales CAGR (compounded annual growth rate) of 13% during FY26-28E (estimates for three years starting FY26) is expected to further increase market share for our coverage universe," Motilal Oswal said in a sector-specific report. The Nifty Consumer Durables, Nifty Auto, and Nifty Oil & Gas ended over 1% higher.
HDFC Bank remained the top-performing stock in the Nifty 50, rising nearly 4%. The bank's gross advances rose over 15% on year as of Jun. 30 to INR 30.61 trillion. Its total deposits were up 14.7% on year at INR 31.71 trillion.
ICICI Bank, HDFC Bank's heavyweight peer in the Nifty 50, also rose over 1%. ICICI Bank's shares rose for the fourth straight session. However, Axis Bank, which started the session among the top gainers in the index, retreated later to ended marginally down. The bank's gross advances rose 19% on year as on Jun. 30 to INR 12.73 trillion.
Among the gainers in the 50-stock index, Hindalco Industries was the second-biggest, rising for the third straight session to end nearly 3% higher. The Nifty Metal index rose around 1%, with most of its constituents ending in positive territory.

The Nifty Auto rose over 1% with a majority of its constituents ending higher. Bajaj Auto was up over 2% while Mahindra & Mahindra, Eicher Motors, and Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles were up 0.9–2.6%.
Kotak Mahindra Bank was the top laggard in the 50-stock index. The stock fell almost 4%, declining for the third session. The private-sector lender's total deposits were largely unchanged on quarter while current account savings account deposits fell.
Among Nifty 200 gainers, Dixon Technologies (India) was a major one, up nearly 7%. Shares of the company rose after brokerage Investec hiked its target price on the stock by almost 12% to INR 16,200 from INR 14,500 while reaffirming its "buy" recommendation.

The estimated cost of purchases is INR 520 billion. Zen Technologies was the top gainer among defence stocks, closing over 6% higher.
