India May tea production dn 3.5% YoY as south India output falls - Tea Board

MUMBAI – India's tea production in May declined 3.5% on year to 131.6 million kilograms, mainly due to lower production in south India. During Jan-May, the country produced 333.49 million kg of tea, according to provisional data released by Tea Board India.
In May, tea production in north Indian states rose 1.7% on year to 111.72 million kg as increased production in West Bengal offset the decline in others. Tea output in Assam was 0.5% lower at 64.7 million kg, and that in Assam valley nearly 1% lower at 61.8 million kg. West Bengal's output rose nearly 5% on year to 42.7 million kg amid improved output in Dooars and Terai regions, offsetting the decline in Darjeeling, the data showed.
Meanwhile, south India's tea production fell over 25% on year to 19.88 million kg amid reduced output in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Karnataka. Tamil Nadu reported a 28.4% decline in tea production at 13.6 million kg in May, the data showed.
Category-wise, production of CTC teas across the country stood at 116.12 million kgs, while orthrodox tea was at 13.35 million kg, and green tea was 2.13 million kg in May. End
