NCDEX to announce relaunch of black pepper futures on Tue at Kochi

MUMBAI - The National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange will announce the relaunch of its black pepper futures contract on Tuesday. The contract specifications and go-live date are likely to be announced at Kochi during the exchange's 'Har Ghar Investor' nationwide market access and investor participation campaign, according to an invite for a press meet by the exchange.
The exchange had launched the black pepper futures contract over 10 years ago but had to discontinue it amid quality issues and consequent court cases. The court cases have almost been resolved, NCDEX
Managing Director and Chief Executive Arun Raste had told Informist in an interview in May. Raste had said that the exchange wanted the pepper price-setting to be back in India, given that India is a major producer of the commodity. Currently, Vietnam is the basis centre for international pricing.
NCDEX had recently received approval from the Securities and Exchange Board of India to relaunch the black pepper futures contract. Raste had told Informist that the exchange had finalised a warehouse in Kerala, which will be the base centre. End
