NEW DELHI – India's foreign exchange reserves as of Jun. 26 fell to their lowest level since April 2025, data released by the Reserve Bank of India Friday showed. The reserves fell by $5.65 billion on week to $666.93 billion as of Jun. 26, largely due to a decline in the value of the central bank's gold holdings.

The value of the central bank's gold holdings fell $5.39 billion to $102.54 billion as of Jun. 26, while foreign currency assets fell $150 million on week to $541.07 billion. In the week ended Jun. 19, foreign exchange reserves had risen for the first time in three weeks.

The rupee fell against the dollar during the week, though the decline was limited by RBI dollar sales in the spot market, according to foreign exchange market dealers. The domestic currency fell 0.1% against the dollar in the week ended Jun. 26 as banks bought dollars for importers and oil companies after the sharp fall in global crude oil prices.

Calculated in dollar terms, the RBI's foreign exchange reserves also reflect the impact of the appreciation or depreciation of currencies other than the dollar, such as the euro, the pound sterling, and the yen, that the central bank holds.  End
