NEW DELHI – India recorded its first 'above-normal' daily rainfall on Wednesday since the southwest monsoon season started Jun. 1. Rainfall across the country was 13?ove the normal of 7.6 millimetres at 8.6 millimetres on Wednesday, data from the India Meteorological Department showed. During Jun. 1-Jul. 1, the country recorded 108.1 millimetres of rain, 38?low the normal for the period.

 

Of the four homogenous regions in the country, only east and northeast India received "deficient" rainfall at 9.1 mm on Wednesday, 35% below normal. Rainfall was "normal" in northwest India at 4.1 mm and south India at 5.3 mm. Meanwhile, central India received "large excess" rainfall at 14.3 mm, 66?ove normal. 

 

Of the 36 subdivisions in the country, rainfall was large deficient in 10, large excess in nine, normal in seven, excess in three, and deficient in six, according to the data.  End
