MUMBAI – The southwest monsoon advanced further over more parts of Uttar Pradesh, the remaining parts of Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, and Ladakh, entire Jammu and Kashmir, and some parts of Haryana and Punjab Tuesday, the India Meteorological Department said. The monsoon trough also covered more parts of Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh and the entire Daman and Diu. Conditions are favourable for the monsoon trough to cover some parts of Rajasthan and more parts of Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Punjab, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, and Uttar Pradesh in the next two days, the weather department said.
Currently, the monsoon trough passes through Porbunder, Vallabh, and Vidyanagar in Gujarat, Shajapur in Madhya Pradesh, Naugaon, Mirzapur, Azamgarh, Ayodhya, Budaun, and Meerut in Uttar Pradesh, Karnal in Haryana, and Gurdaspur in Punjab.
A low pressure area is likely to form over northwest Bay of Bengal around Friday, which is likely to trigger the southwest monsoon trough and cause active monsoon conditions over central India in the next five to six days, the department said. The department has issued a red alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall with spells of extremely heavy showers over parts of west Madhya Pradesh Friday and Saturday. Heavy rainfall is also expected over parts of Madhya Pradesh from Thursday to Sunday, over Vidarbha till Friday, and over Chhattisgarh till Thursday.
The weather department has also issued a red alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall with spells of extremely heavy showers in parts of Konkan, Goa, and south Gujarat till Sunday, and central Maharashtra from Thursday to Sunday. Heavy showers are likely to persist over most parts of west India till Tuesday.
A red alert has also been issued for heavy to very heavy showers with spells of extremely heavy rain over parts of coastal Karnataka till Thursday, the weather bureau said. Widespread heavy rainfall is expected over most parts of south peninsular India till Tuesday, it said.
Very heavy rainfall is likely over parts of Gangetic West Bengal from Sunday to Tuesday and over Odisha till Monday, the weather bureau said. Heavy rainfall is expected to continue over parts of both east and northeast India till Tuesday, the bureau said.
In northwest India, very heavy rainfall is seen over parts of Himachal Pradesh Thursday, Friday, Sunday, and Monday, over Uttarakhand till Friday and on Monday and Tuesday, and over east Rajasthan Friday and Saturday. Heavy rainfall is likely over multiple parts of northwest India till Tuesday, the bureau said. Dust storms are also expected over parts of west Rajasthan from Friday to Sunday.
Hot and humid weather conditions are seen in pockets of Arunachal Pradesh from Friday to Sunday, in Assam and Meghalaya from Thursday to Sunday, and in Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura Thursday and Friday, the weather bureau said.
