India rainfall 3% below normal on Tue, 40% below normal in Jun, says IMD

NEW DELHI – India recorded 7.4 millimetres of rainfall on Tuesday, 3?low the normal of 7.6 millimetres, data from the India Meteorological Department showed. During Jun. 1–30, the country recorded 99.5 millimetres of rain, 40?low the normal for the period.

 

Of the four homogenous regions in the country, only one region – northwest India – received "deficient" rainfall at 2.6 mm on Tuesday, 49?low normal. 

 

Rainfall was "normal" in east and northeast India at 11.9 mm and south India at 5.6 mm. Meanwhile, central India received "excess" rainfall at 10.6 mm, 27?ove normal. However, some subdivisions in the region, such as central Maharashtra, Saurashtra and Kutch, and parts of Gujarat, received "deficient" or "largely deficient" rains. 

 

In the 36 subdivisions in the country, rainfall was "large deficient" in 10, "large excess" in eight, "normal" in two, "excess" in four, and "deficient" in 11, according to the data.  End
